Chapter 7: Citizens Navigating in Literate Worlds: The case of digital literacy.

Read the introduction through to the sub heading "Studying Digital Youth" on page 102.
1. What is the purpose of this chapter?
1. to discuss the aspects of a digital generation literacy practices
2. to discuss how young people use digital media, what they use it for, and why & how school can help implement these ideas
3. most of the research is in the Nordic society & why it is the main purpose
4. how the digital generation is different than others with culture
5. concepts of this generation
2. Why did the author choose to focus on your people in the Nordic countries?
his research concentrates there
3. How does education differ in Nordic countries from education in other parts of the world including the United States.
it is more project based learning, equal opportunites, and high access to media ---we are more into using media in a creative way
4. Why is more research needed about how young people use digital media in their lives outside of school?
there is a huge difference in ways people use media inside and outside of school in different cultures so we need to better understand why there is a diffence and what can change that
Then begin reading again on p. 110 Digital Literacies and Educational Practices

1. Why is it important for there to be more opportunities for young people to use Digital Media in school?
it improves basic skills, media is overcoming the world and we need to know how to use it, it improves knowledge, improves learning strategies, and improves cultural competence
2. What skills do people need in order to be considered digitally literate?
they need basic skills that can help them understand how to use what they are using, how to apply what they just learned, why it does what it does, and when to do certain things
