3 changes to WebQuest
1. I would provide an easy step by step action plan for the students to follow. It would be detailed so that they wouldn't get lost or forget what they need to have. I would also add that they created a commercial comparing their parents car and the most fuel efficient car. This makes it more meaningful to real life and personal to their lives. They can do this with digital storyteller.

Deconstructing Digital Natives: Chapter 8 Beyond Google and The "Satisficing" Searching of Digital Natives.
1. What is the purpose of this chapter?
It wants to distinguish the differnece between the term digital natives and how students use technology in school.
2. What is the major finding from a review of studies that have looked at technology adoption of young people?. Does this finding seem to reflect your own use of technology?
I, personally, am the same way as the students in the study. I go for the quick and easy way to find things and usually get angry if the first few things I click on don't have the answer.
3. How do the authors define Information Literacy?
Information Literacy is the set of skills and knowledge that allows us to find, evaluate, and use the information we need, as well as to filter out the information we don't need.
4. What is the "clear message" from a review of the studies focused on college students information seeking behavior? Do these findings relfect your own information seeking behaviors?
The message is that most college students still don't know how to do college research. They use search engines instead of library resources.
5. What does the term "satisfcing" in the area of decision making mean?
It describes the decisions individuals take that are satisfactory but are not maximal or optimal
6. What are the differences to deep and surface level approaches to a learning task?
deep level- comprehension
surface approach- reproducing the material instead of learning it
7. What should educators aim to do to improve the scripts student have for sophisticated online information seeking?
They should encourage the deep level because because they need to know the material instead of just passing the test.
8. Why is Google's page rank system problematic for information seeking?
They aren't based on reliability or relevance.
9. Are you "digitally wise" when it comes to information seeking? Give an example of how you approached an information seeking task for one of your academic courses this semester (do not include this class).
I would not say I am digitally wise per say. I can do what I need to do with computers.. but whenever I cannot figure something out I just get frustrated... which tends to happen a lot. It was a lot easier for me in high school.
10. Has the popularity of the Internet and the information contained on the Web created a new problem for undergraduate students research skills? Why of Why not?
Yes it has because there is so much information that is just thrown around. Students don't know what to do with the information they have, nor do they know what information they should use or not use. This puts a strain on any sort of research.

Maritime Safety and Pollution:
This video was amazing. The voice was a girl that sounded younger. She was very concerned with this problem. It goes along a set PowerPoint type project with many of pictures that go with what she is saying. It expains what it is and why it is bad. Then, it goes to say that the ultimate solution is to stop pollution, which I agree with completely. I definitely think that pollution is a big issue and am doing an informative presentation about it for my communications class. The fact that so many people just outright break the law is ridiculous and more actions need to be done against it.

I didn't know any of this information before reading this webpage. The spelling as well as grammar is very well thought out and good. If there were any mistakes, it was beyond my knowing.

My topic is being addressed throughout the entire blog posting. It goes into detail about everything and shows examples. It is also very scholarly by being from a college professor as well as the language used. The major arguement being made is that as everyone thinks that Obama has caused jobs to decrease with the implimation of EPA regulations, but in reality jobs have gone up and the unemployment rate in WV is lower than the national average. Instead of losing jobs, they are being placed in different positions. Coal productions are still very high.

Objectivity:Are environmental regulations the cause of decreased coal production in West Virginia?
His point of view going in was a kind of curiosity due to lack of information. Towards the end of the article you can clearly tell that jobs have not decreased in the coal industry due to his findings. He doesn't think that there is a war on coal. He is a professor and researcher. He wants to get the information out, so he feels better and gains from posting this. Not only does he help himself, but he informs others. He isn't really biased because he gives both points of view but then again he concentrates on how McKinley is wrong and mean. The message is on the school website. He links and states where he gets the information from. He got his own data with the help of a few other green groks. He is not one-sided. He goes into detail about everything. He uses negative words for the opposing view though, but not neccesarily positive ones in his case.

It causes debates and uprises because it doesn't apply to everyone.

Positive because it enhaces the learning process.

track the development of the participants multimodal literacies over a 2 year period

gain a deeper understanding of how multimodal texts were created especially when students were working in pairs at the computer

I find it most interesting how the whole presentation format changes. You can see how she not only grows in her computer work but how she grows as a person. You see the changes in her life through a PowerPoint, and that to me is just... cool.

while typed works appear immediately, there is often a considerable wait time between keying in instructions and a response from computer, the length of wait time is unpredictable and maybe several minutes, and the result is often unexpected

1. Why are networks better than hierarchies?
Hierarchies lack flexibility and are slow with external changes, people are more information transmitters than independent agents, and people at the top end up swamped with high rates of change. Networks make it more level and easier to control.
2. What is a nation state and how is it being threatened?
a physical territory with a political system, environmental system, and economic system..
3. How is civil society gaining legitimacy over government agencies? Give an example of a NGO (Non-Government Agency) whose goals and services you think are beneficial to solving a global problem.
Civil society has become a powerful force. They have grown more complex and knowledgable. People trust them more. UNICEF fights hunger. I think it is a good organization.

Their solutions are helpful. With their breakthroughs, desalination, new vaccines and drugs, safer everything, etc. they become helpful.

I don't know a whole lot about any of the other global stresses besides environmental stesses. So therefore it concerns me the most. For my last two years of high school, I realized the impact we have been having on the environment and simple ways that we can help stop or better the environment. But does anyone, including myself on occasions, do them? No. People don't care or take into consideration what they are doing to it. Nor do they know. When the day comes that their house just caves in, we run out of fresh water, or precious food... Then people will be concerned. But by then, its too late.

I think it would be fun in certain cases, but then again I'm not a huge fan of group work. I usually either end up taking on all of the work or stressing out over someone else doing it. Then, there's the case like in my lit. class where nobody in my group read the story but me, yet knew more about it by spark noting it. So, groups can be a good thing too. I just wouldn't work "collaboratively" as my first choice.

I don't think they should completely, but a little might be good for the future of them.

He leaves out that digital enhancement must be accepted to succeed. First, this is not a flat world. It has definitely been proven that it is round, and saying that it is flat kind of offends me. I don't think that schools lag behind. I just think that they haven't found a way to use technology in education yet. I'm sure they will though as they are trying by using smart boards and skype in the classroom.

Skype Session
In my opinion, the assignment with skype was pretty cool. I have never used skype, or any other computer related chat that you can see another person with, so it was a whole new experience for me. It definitely is a good way to communicate with people that are far away, or even someone fairly close. We may have had difficulties with it, but in the end it worked out. I would like to experience more and become familiar with it.

1. What was the term "Digital Native" meant to be used as?
It was supposed to be a metaphor for describing the differences between younger and older people regarding digital technology.

They grew up with technology so that makes them more comfortable with it then that of their parents or older generations. They also are good at finding shortcuts when others cannot because they have grown up with it.They don't know everything, they are just more comfortable with it.

This chapter basically shows you that they are not superior because our world is coming to a complete digital age. People need to know at least the basics of technology. I don't believe that enhanced minds are superior either though because I believe that in certain ways certain people are better at certain things; therefore, no one person can be superior in all aspects of life.

I don't understand why everyone has to take things out of context or put other things together to try and see the bad in everything. I know that that is not the point of this sentence, but that really stuck out to me. He means good and he tries to point out all the things he may be wrong about or can be taken in a misleading way.. so why is everyone being so harsh? He very blunty says multiple times that he means no offense and that not everyone applies to this because not everyone lives the same life or has the same experiences.
As he states, nobody is born being a digital native. They grow up to be by being comfortable with technology.

Obama is there to discuss what has happened with people that were actually there. Obama is happy about what they have to say. They are working out the best solution.

Could they not come up with a different caption than the title of the article? Obama looks happy, so is he seizing the claim or did the workers just tell him what they were going to do about it? He doesn't look like he is the one talking; he looks like he is listening to what they have to say and is happy about it.

The books show that he may be using other rescorces to figure it out, but they're blurred because they are not the main focus. The trees are there to make it look more like a calm place.
